The Bágoas da Terra Group was born in 1959, inside the old spanish feminine section (Sección Femenina), being a pioneer amongst the other folk groups of the ‘Mariña Luguesa’ shire.  Then in this year (2008) thei’re celebrating their 50th anniversary. From the very first beginning to nowadays acted in lot of very important national and international folk festivals such as Mediterráneo (Murcia), Ronda, Burgos, Sevilla, Córdoba, Gibraltar, Jaén, Asturias, Ciudad Real, Ibiza… in Spain and France, Algery, Greece,  former Checoslovaky, Portugal, Germany, Poland, Italy, Corsica, Africa, etc. Bágoas da terra also has acted for H.R.H. the kings of Spain, and was selected to represent Galicia in the EXPO’92 in Seville. In this way the group has received lots of awards and mentions regarding to their hard work in the traditional culture and also their artistic quality.

The Bágoas da Terra repertory it is composed by dances from the Mariña Luguesa shire, the mountainous region deep inside the province of Lugo and other Galician shires. Their most representative dances are muiñeiras, Xotas, foliadas, pandeiradas, polkas, maneos, etc, which are characterized for the liveliness of their rhythm and the vigorous way they are danced. They also have many different own choreographies.

The group has got wide and varied costumes, most of them made by their own members, trying this way to improve, in the best way, the set the scene of what they are dancing and transform it in a colourful show.

Bágoas da Terra organises the “Mostra Folklórica Internacional’ (Folk dance festival) since 1979. Later it was registered as a cultural association, increasing in this way, the activities performed, as the investigation and diffusion of the folk culture and the teaching of it to the childhood and youth people of the village and shire. At the same time, it performs a complete and wide schedule of activities in the whole year, where it is included guided tours along the shire with the children of the schools, conferences, exhibitions, etc.

Bágoas da terra has a dance group, tambourine players and singers group, bagpipes band and folk music group.
